Overview

You are invited to come along and experience the Distance Education way of schooling. Charleville School of Distance Education (formerly Charleville School of the Air)

The Charleville School of Distance Education was founded in 1966 as a School of the Air, with radio lessons originally broadcast from the Royal Flying Doctor Base. Students completed their instructional materials with the assistance of Home Tutors and teachers based at the Correspondence School in Brisbane.

In 1989, the institution was officially renamed the "School of Distance Education – Charleville Centre." By 1991, with the addition of a new building and the refurbishment of older facilities, the school evolved into the Charleville School of Distance Education as it is known today. In 2001, high-frequency radios were replaced by telephones, modernizing communication between teachers and students.

The Charleville School of Distance Education, formerly known as the Charleville School of the Air, offers a distinctive educational experience and is one of seven Schools of Distance Education in Queensland. Visitors are welcome to explore this unique mode of schooling.

Guided tours are available on weekdays at 9:30 a.m. during Queensland State School terms. Each tour includes an overview of the school's operations and the opportunity to observe a live lesson as a teacher conducts a session with students over the air.

Visitors also have the opportunity to purchase a variety of souvenirs offered by the Charleville School of Distance Education Parents and Citizens' Association (P&C).Tours
